‘‘Racial Violence will not be Tolerated!
We are shocked and appalled to learn about the racist attack by Finnish security forces on the minor son of our friend, colleague and network member Dr. Faith Mkwesha in Helsinki, Finland.
The attack has been followed by the unlawful interrogation of him, an underage, by the police, without parents or legal support. Having published this unjust, racist and unlawful treatment, through her social media (FB , twitter and instagram) pages, documented through photos and videos of the violence sent to her by witnesses, Dr Faith Mkwesha is now confronted by the police with the accusation of slander. Not only is expression of sorrow and pain a human right, and a natural act for a mother whose son has been affected by deep trauma, the documentation also gives clear proof and evidence of the unlawful racist treatment her son had to suffer.
Dr Mkwesha is seeking legal support to defend herself against these accusations. As she currently does not hold a salaried position, the costs of the lawyer are an impossible financial burden, in addition to the immense emotional stress and trauma she and her family are suffering.
As colleagues and friends we are standing in solidarity with Dr Faith Mkwesha and have set up this fundraiser to support her to cover the cost of the lawyer. The funds raised will be used for paying legal fees for the case Dr Faith Mkwesha is sued for slander and for legal fees for lawyers for racial violence inflicted on her son. Any remainder will also be used to cover medical bills for psychological treatment needed to deal with trauma and distress of the family.
